September is National Senior Center Month

September is National Senior Center Month and the Pennyrile Area Agency on Aging & Independent Living is celebrating the following senior centers in the Pennyrile Region: Caldwell County Senior Center, Christian County Senior Center, Crittenden County Senior Center, Hopkins County Senior Center, Livingston County Senior Center, Lyon County Senior Center, Muhlenberg County Senior Center, Todd County Senior Center and Trigg County Senior Center. All nine senior centers are operated by Pennyrile Allied Community Services.
Today’s senior centers are delivering vital connections to help all older adults age well in the community. The senior centers in the Pennyrile Region offer a vibrant variety of services, innovative programs and volunteer opportunities for senior citizens. Our senior centers offer so more than most would anticipate - they offer the opportunity for friendship, meaning and purpose.
During the pandemic, all nine senior centers pivoted to quickly transition from traditional congregate meals to curbside meals. Routes for meal delivery were also quickly expanded to address the surge of additional home delivered meal clients being served during the COVID-19 pandemic. The transition and expansion allowed for senior hunger and food insecurity to be addressed on a much larger scale than ever before in the Pennyrile Region for senior citizens.
National Senior Center Month is about celebrating our local senior citizens and all that they do for senior citizens in the Pennyrile Region. Our senior centers have displayed great resiliency during bleak times and maintained steady support for one of the most vulnerable populations. To our senior centers and all their staff – thanks so much for all that you do!
