PeADD Promotes Lifelong Brain Health Through New Community Initiative
The Pennyrile Area Development District (PeADD) is launching a new community education and awareness initiative focused on an important part of health and well-being: taking care of our brains throughout every stage of life.
PeADD has been awarded funding through the Office of Dementia Services to promote brain health across the lifespan and increase community understanding of dementia. Through the initiative, PeADD will provide families with educational resources and opportunities that encourage healthy habits while helping make conversations about dementia more approachable and family-friendly.
Building Healthy Habits From an Early Age
Brain health is important at every age. Healthy habits established during childhood can help lay the foundation for lifelong physical and cognitive well-being.
As part of the initiative, PeADD is partnering with local public libraries to bring brain health education directly into our communities. Families participating in the program will have access to free children's bike helmets, reinforcing the importance of protecting the brain while children stay active.
Families will also receive age-appropriate books that introduce the topic of dementia in a compassionate and family-friendly way. Additional resources will include brain health information, children's coloring pages, and educational activities designed to make learning about healthy habits engaging for children and their caregivers.
By combining safety, education, physical activity, and family learning, PeADD hopes to encourage conversations about brain health that can continue at home.

The first community event will be held:

Promoting Brain Health Across the Lifespan
Dementia can affect individuals, families, caregivers, and entire communities. Increasing awareness and understanding can help families feel more comfortable discussing dementia while also highlighting the steps people can take to support their overall health and well-being throughout life.
Through this initiative, PeADD is working to make brain health education accessible to families and to encourage healthy habits beginning at an early age.
We invite families in Todd County and the surrounding area to join us on August 20 at the Todd County Public Library as we learn more about protecting our brains, building healthy habits, and supporting brain health across the lifespan.
This initiative is made possible through funding from the Office of Dementia Services.
