Older Americans Month Local Spotlight
In honor of Older Americans Month 2021, the Pennyrile Area Agency on Aging and Independent Living is recognizing older adults throughout the Pennyrile.
Martha Stallions, 88 years old is a retired teacher and farmer. She was married to her husband 58 years and has two daughters and one granddaughter.
She worked over 30 years, primarily in Livingston County. She taught business classes, where students learned skills such as typing, shorthand, bookkeeping and business math. She also sponsored after school activities including FBLA. Mrs. Stallions enjoyed teaching, but she especially enjoyed the students.
She was very active in the community where she attended events with her two daughters. Some of her community involvement included Homemakers and Retired Teachers Organizations. She has also been involved in the yearly Ohio River Sweep, an event that cleans up discarded trash and debris along the Ohio River. She has lived on the river most of her adult life and even has a t-shirt quilt she made from all the t-shirts she collected from this yearly event.
Mrs. Stallions is a member of Bethel Church and today enjoys a quiet country life with her cat “Miss Kitty”. She still enjoys growing flowers, tomatoes and pepper plants.
Thank you, Mrs. Stallions, for the contributions to your community!
