The Pennyrile Area Agency on Aging The Pennyrile Area Agency on Aging and Independent Living is designated by the Commonwealth of Kentucky to develop and administer comprehensive programs and services for seniors. Residents age 60 and older in the nine Pennyrile Counties of Caldwell, Christian, Crittenden, Hopkins, Livingston, Lyon, Muhlenberg, Todd and Trigg are eligible to participate in or receive services.
Priority is given to elderly individuals who reside in rural areas, elderly with greatest economic need (with particular attention to low income minority), older individuals with severe disabilities, older persons with limited English speaking ability, and older individuals with Alzheimer’s Disease or related neurological disorder.
Services provided are: In Home Services Assessment: The collection of in depth information about a client’s situation and function so a plan of care can be developed to meet his/her needs. Case Management: Ongoing client contact to ensure appropriate, comprehensive, and timely services are received. Homemaker-Home Management: House keeping services to aid a person in activities such as cleaning, shopping and laundry. Homemaker-Personal Care: Services to aid the client in personal care activities such as bathing, dressing, and hair care. Respite Care: Limited in home services to provide relief for the caregiver. Home Delivered Meals: Nutritious meals delivered Monday through Friday to persons who are homebound due to an illness or disability. Home Repair: Minor home adaptations and modifications to aid the elderly in maintaining independent living and to ensure safety. Chore: Major cleaning assistance such as carpet cleaning, washing walls and removing debris. Escort: One on one escorted transportation to medical appointments. Community Services
Adult Day Care: Provides a daytime, therapeutic social program including organized activities in a supervised environment to eligible adults. Alzheimer’s Respite: Provides in home respite care for persons with Alzheimer’s Disease or a related disorder regardless of age. Senior Employment Services: Provides part-time employment opportunities for low income individuals age 55 or older. The emphasis of the program is to provide training to enable the participant to enter or re-enter the job market. Legal Services: Provides seniors with competent legal advice and representation. Disease Prevention: Provides wellness and fitness information along with an exercise program for seniors. Benefits Counseling: Provides one on one assistance with the often complicated and confusing process of accessing Medicare, Medicaid and other public and private benefit programs. Personal Care Attendant Program: Provides a stipend for the consumer to employ a personal care attendant. Services are provided to mentally alert, severely physically disabled adults, 18 years or older who have lost the use of two or more limbs. Senior Center Services: Transportation, outreach, information and assistance, friendly visiting, educational classes, health promotion, telephone reassurance, congregate and home delivered meals are all offered by senior citizens centers. In addition to these services, the senior center provides socialization, recreation, arts and crafts, volunteer opportunities, intergenerational programs and an enjoyable place to gather and fellowship with others. |
